HUD Approved Housing Counselor's (HECM) Exam

Registration and Payment

 

  1. Please review the instructions below prior to beginning the process.
  2. To begin the registration process, click the HECM Counselor Exam Registration Center link.
  3. The HECM Counselor Exam Registration Center screen displays:

  4. On the right side of the screen under New User? click on Browse the Catalog.

  5. Click on Add To Cart button.

  6. Click on Checkout button in the lower right hand corner.

  7. Scroll down under New Account on the right side of the page, and type in the student information requested:
    • Legal First and Last Name
    • Address
    • Phone Number This number will be used to communicate with you regarding exam.
    • Email Address. Enter a valid email address. This email will be used to communicate with you regarding exam.
    • Login ID Write this information down, as you will need it to complete the registration process
    • Password Write this information down, as you will need it to complete the registration process
    • New Counselor? Check this box, if you are a new counselor who has not been certified before
    • Date of Birth
    • Last four digits of your Social Security Number
    • Complete name of your housing counseling agency. If you are not yet employed at an agency, HUD has indicated that test takers should enter "No Agency" as a place holder.
    • The HUD Housing Counseling System (HUD HCS) ID number for your agency. This is a five digit number that begins with an "8." If your agency is an affiliate of a national intermediary for housing counseling, the intermediary contact can provide this number. If you are not yet employed at an agency, HUD has indicated test takers enter "80000" as a place holder.
    • If you have an account on FHA Connection, enter FHA Connection ID.  This helps HUD process data for those taking the exam for re qualification.
    • Billing Information (if different from information above), Same as above? Check this box, if billing information is same as the student information above and billing information fields will be grayed out.
    • Note:If billing information is different - billing address, phone and email details overwrite student details. All other student details will be retained.

    • Phone Number This number will be used to communicate with you regarding exam.
    • Email Address. Enter a valid email address. This email will be used to communicate with you regarding exam.
  8. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. Next page is displayed as below.

  9. Verify that the information entered is correct. If you need to modify any of the information, click Modify Personal Information.
  10. If the information is correct, click the box marked By checking this box, I am confirming that I have read and accept the terms of the Refund Policy.
  11. If you are ready to proceed with making your payment, click the button Click here to enter our secure purchasing area. This will take you to the secure purchase area where you input your credit card information.

  12. Enter your credit card information and click Continue.
  13. On the following screen, review your information and click I Authorize This Transaction.
  14. If the transaction is approved, you will see approval message on the following screen that displays your transaction reference number. Please note the reference number for your records. Click on Continue to proceed to next page.
  15. Purchase confirmation page displays with additional information about exam scheduling.

  16. Click the Start link at the bottom of the page. You will be taken to login (registration home) page. Log in using the Student Login ID and Student Password that you entered during registration.
  17. Click on the Details magnifying glass button to the left of HECM Counselor Exam.
  18. On the next page, click the Details link under the word Actions. You can now print your detailed receipt.

Changes in your personal information

If at any time after you register, there is a change in your personal information, please be sure to re-enter the online Registration Center using your "Student ID Login" and "Student Password" to change it.
